The Reef 28 Hotel Review, Playa del Carmen, Mexico

The day begins with a breakfast buffet at Ventiocho, the all-day restaurant housed in a light-filled atrium in the centre of the building. The spread includes cheeses, fruit and yogurt; hot local dishes (dont miss the chilaquiles made with corn tortillas, salsa and cheese); and a cook-to-order egg and pancake station.

The day begins with a breakfast buffet at Ventiocho, the all-day restaurant housed in a light-filled atrium in the centre of the building. The spread includes cheeses, fruit and yogurt; hot local dishes (don’t miss the chilaquiles – made with corn tortillas, salsa and cheese); and a cook-to-order egg and pancake station.

Arriba, the rooftop restaurant, serves salads, sandwiches and pizza until 10:30pm, either under a trellis or poolside at your lounger or cabana. Cachito, open for lunch and dinner, serves à la carte Mexican dishes, including staples such as guacamole, ceviche and empanadas. Its neighbour, the Asian eatery El Asiatico, opens exclusively for dinner and offers a superb pad Thai. Unusual for an all-inclusive, all of the hotel's restaurants are also open to the public. Room service is also available, although, curiously, not between noon and 5pm.
