Shaynna Blaze was unmasked as Bluebottle on Monday night’s episode of The Masked Singer, unveiling her little known singing talent.

But her impressive pipes weren’t the only revelation from the interior designer, who was a surprise contestant on the Ten reality show given her contract with Channel 9’s The Block.

Speaking on 2Day FM’s Hughesy, Ed & ErinTuesday morning, The Masked Singer judge David Hughes claimed Blaze didn’t tell anyone from Nine Network that she’d be appearing on the rival show – which airs concurrently with The Block.

“She said she doesn’t have an exclusive clause in her [Nine] contract, so she thought, ‘I love to sing, I’ve been a cabaret singer in the past, people don’t really know about it now … I’m gonna go on Masked Singer, and The Block can find out on the night’,” Hughes said.

The comedian went on to say Block host Scott Cam would’ve found out on Monday with the rest of Australia – claiming he “watches it every night”.

“So Scotty Cam would’ve found out while he was sitting down with his popcorn watching,” Hughes said.

“Scotty watches it night after night. He watches it with his sons. They watch The Block on catch-up.”

Taking to Instagram after the episode aired, Blaze said she hadn’t even told her two children about her involvement on the show.

“This was one of the hardest things to keep quiet about,” Blaze said.

“I travel a lot for work so it was easy to say I was on a work trip, but in the couple of weeks leading up to the Masked Singer, Emma, my daughter-in-law, said to [daughters] Carly and Jess, ‘I think this is the year for your Mum to be on the show, I mean, she went to Sydney …’

“I laughed it off and after a few days of funny family conversations, it was forgotten about, until Bluebottle arrived.”

Blaze went on to suggest this wouldn’t be the end of her singing pursuits, with the show reigniting her passion for performing.

“I thought this part of my life was over, just a distant memory locked away,” she said. “But the past couple of years I have been writing and recording, and I have to say I am so happy to have my voice again. Watch this space.”
