McDonald’s is “surprising” Australian fans with the release of a highly sought-after menu item.

The Cajun Chicken Deluxe is a new twist on the popular burger, but features the highly requested addition of the fast-food outlet’s spicy limited-edition sauce.

It’s launching for a limited time on November 30 alongside another menu item Macca’s fans have been campaigning for – the Caramilk Hokey Pokey McFlurry.

The burger joint is also bringing back two “fan favourites”, the El Maco and the Cheesy Jalapeño Pops.

For those that aren’t familiar with the El Maco burger, it features two 100 per cent Aussie beef patties, Mexican-inspired El Maco sauce, sour cream, cheese, fresh locally-sourced tomato and crispy lettuce – all served on the classic Macca’s sesame seed bun.

This time the Cheesy Jalapeño Pops – which were loved for being “crispy on the outside” while having an “oozy” filling – come complete with the tangy El Maco dipping sauce.

The pair were last served back in 2019.

“Summer is about bringing people together and what better way to do that than by bringing together some of our most iconic menu and flavour combos?” Tim Kenward, McDonald’s Australia’s marketing director, said.

“We invite Aussies to kick off summer with an El Maco, Cajun Chicken Deluxe or the Cheesy Jalapeño Pops, then top it off with the McFlurry with Cadbury Caramilk Hokey Pokey.

“Whatever your summer plans are, we’ve got you covered, because nothing quite goes together like the great Aussie summer and Macca’s.”

News of the limited-edition Caramilk Hokey Pokey McFlurry, which features Macca’s iconic, soft serve mixed with flakes of Cadbury Caramilk chocolate, golden Hokey Pokey pieces and Caramilk sauce, was leaked online earlier this month, causing excitement among those who love the cult Cadbury block.

Social media users shared their thoughts at the new dessert, labelling it “interesting” and a “must-try”.

“That would be in my mouth at 12.01am the 30th Nov,” one said.

“This is all I want for my birthday,” another added.

But others were less enthused by the addition claiming it doesn’t work well with ice-cream.

“Unfortunately Caramilk loses its subtle flavour when combined with ice cream, I suspect this might be a fail like the first Caramilk McFlurry,” one said.

“Caramilk wasn’t very good last time unfortunately, hope this is better,” another commenter added.
