Today, we celebrate someone who made our childhoods magical. Happy 51st birthday, J.K. Rowling.

Instead of just writing an article about her birthday, we’ve decided to make a list of reasons why she’ll always be our hero. Did you catch the Harry Potter pun? Of course you did.

1.  She is a Twitter queen

If you follow her on Twitter, you know she doesn’t sit quietly behind her computer or phone – she speaks, loud and clear. She must be a Gryffindor because she has nerve! We enjoy seeing all of her tweets, especially the ones where she puts people in their place.

Thank you, Jo, for doing what many are afraid to do – @ people and tell them they’re wrong.

.@diegtristan8 "she is built like a man". Yeah, my husband looks just like this in a dress. You're an idiot. pic.twitter.com/BCvT10MYkI

How horrible. Voldemort was nowhere near as bad. https://t.co/hFO0XmOpPH

Do yourself a favor and follow the queen of Twitter. Her @ name is @jk_rowling

2. She had humble beginnings and remains humble today

J.K Rowling, who’s mother died 6 months after she began writing Harry Potter, was a single mother living off the state. Rowling was very depressed during this time, but still managed to write, publish and become a world renowned author. Through all of her struggles and losses, she came out fighting and gifted the world Harry Potter.

Rowling is now a billionaire. She gives back in several ways, whether it be words of encouragement, donations or charity. Rowling created, and is the president of, a charity named Lumos. Lumos, a spell in Harry Potter, means ‘light,’ which is fitting for the charity that helps children. Rowling goes above and beyond, especially with her hard earned money.

Thank you for your kindness, J.K Rowling.

3. She knows who she is

While she is one of the best authors out there, she does not let her celebrity status take her over. She lives life and continues to do what she loves – writing. It would not have mattered to her if her books would have made it to the local book store or across the world – she cared about writing, that is all. Everyone in the wizarding world knew Harry Potter’s name. Little did she know that would become true in our world as well. After her success, she never became self – absorbed.

Thank you, Joanne, for being such a real person.

4. She never gave up

Rowling was turned down by numerous publishing companies when she was trying to publish her magical writing. She kept at it and a publishing company finally gave her the chance she needed. Those publishers must have felt like idiots – they had rejected a woman who became one of the world’s best authors.

She never gave up on her dreams. If she can publish something as magical and remarkable as the Harry Potter series, we can accomplish anything we set our minds to.

Her books were not the only successful thing, however. There is merchandise, apparel, and even the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios in Florida that she has influenced and created. The outcome of her persistence? Utter success.

“It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all, in which case you have failed by default.” – J.K Rowling

We siriusly love you, Jo.

5. She taught us everything there is to know about friendship, bravery and love through Harry Potter

Do we have to explain this one?

Throughout Rowling’s enchanting novels, Harry, Ron, Hermione and all of the other characters went though good and dark times, studied and didn’t study for exams, snuck out to Hogsmeade and into the Dark Forest, lost loved ones, cheered on their favorite teams at the Quidditch World Cup, played pranks on others, cried together, fought he-who-must-not-be-named and won.

Without J.K. Rowling, our lives would have never been magical. Thank you for sharing the story of Harry Potter, the boy who lived.

We may have grown up, but the magic of the Harry Potter generation will always live on.

Happy birthday, J.K. Rowling. Oh, and you too, Harry.
