The Board of Directors of the Community Planning Association of Southwest Idaho (COMPASS) announced Monday that the City of Nampa nearly doubled in size since the year 2000.

The 2019 estimates state the City of Nampa has surpassed 100,000 people with a current estimated population of 102,030.

COMPASS states the total population for Ada and Canyon Counties combined is estimated at 712,200.

“The City of Nampa has nearly doubled in size since the 2000 Census,” states COMPASS Principal Planner and demographer Carl Miller. “In 2000 — only 19 years ago — the City of Nampa had a population of just under 52,000.”

COMPASS estimates population increase by using a Census count in 2010 as a base number and updates that number with information from local building construction permits, revised household sizes and vacancy rates, and recent annexations (expansions of city limits).

“A complete count in the 2020 Census will be a key factor in ensuring our annual population estimates continue to be accurate as well,” explains Miller. “COMPASS is already working with local agencies and organizations throughout the Treasure Valley, as well as the US Census Bureau, to help ensure everyone is counted in 2020.”

The 2019 population estimates can be found on the COMPASS website; follow link under “Hot Topics.”
