There have been mixed reviews on comedian Amy Schumer’s Star Wars-inspired GQ magazine spread. The “Trainwreck” star posed for a very provocative cover shoot for the mag dressed as Princess Leia and sucking on C-3PO’s finger. Also inside the magazine, Schumer is shown smoking a cigarette while naked in bed with characters R2-D2 and C-3PO and dancing with stormtroopers.
On Twitter, GQ magazine wrote, “ @amyschumer is the cover star of GQ’s new comedy issue and the funniest woman in the galaxy!”
Yet many Star Wars fans took to Twitter to express their anger toward the “tasteless” spread and called out Lucasfilm and parent company Disney. Lucasfilm has continued to issue the following statement to those who found the cover and spread unappealing:
“Lucasfilm & Disney didn’t approve, participate in or condone the inappropriate use of our characters in this manner.”
Though many fans were not happy with the photos and the way these iconic characters were perceived, veteran lead star Mark Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker, approved of the shoot.
“Got excited when I saw @amyschumer @GQMagazine pics & thought she was just cast in Ep 8! We should be so lucky,” Hamill tweeted.
